A Growing Girl in a Grown Up World

She still wears ribbons in her hair,
and drinks out of a sippy cup.
She says she will throw all her sippy cups away,
when she's a grown up.

Her favorite color is pink.
When she is out of money she is calm.
Her mother just smiles,
and thinks it won't be like that when she's a mom.

She turns 8,
and she gets her first crush.
"We are going to get married someday."
Her mom says to not be in such a rush.

Now she is boy crazy.
When she is with friends she is wild.
"You will have even more friends.
By the time you have your first child."

She is a junior and her mom takes her shopping,
and says, "well isn't this fun."
She just turns and says,
"I will be able to have real fun when I turn 21."

On the day of her graduation,
a diploma is what she carries.
"I know you are proud of me now,
but you will be more proud when I get married."

On the day of her wedding,
she has tears in her eyes.
"I don't want to leave your side."
"I am not surprised."

"But you have to leave,
o.k my little pup.
Go on and start a new life,
because you are all grown up."
